V.P Juldeh unveils Solar Mini Grid Facility in Port Loko

Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has officially launched a Solar Mini Grid Facility in Kalangba town, marking a significant advancement in rural energy access.

This initiative aligns with President Bio’s vision to enhance electricity supply in remote areas.

At the inauguration, Paramount Chief PC Shebora Raka III expressed pride in hosting the Vice President, acknowledging the positive impact of the new facility on local livelihoods, education, and healthcare. The Chief praised the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure in the Lokomasama chiefdom.

Vice President Jalloh highlighted that the project is part of a broader initiative to illuminate additional communities, including Babara, Kalangba Junction, Petifu, and Gbinti. He noted that over 103 communities nationwide are now connected to solar mini grids, emphasizing the critical link between reliable electricity, quality education, and effective healthcare

Jalloh urged residents to take ownership of and safeguard the new facility, reaffirming his deep connection to Lokomasama.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Eldred Taylor commended the community’s support and affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to extending mini grids to more rural areas. He described the facility as durable, dependable, and affordable.

Emmanuel Harding, Head of Marketing at PowerLeone, assured continued oversight to ensure high-quality service, while Emmanuel Junisa, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, provided an overview of the project’s scope.

The event was attended by the Head of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Energy, Hon. Kekura Vandi, and other Members of Parliament, reflecting strong legislative support for ongoing energy sector reforms aligned with the Feed Salone agenda.
