United Nations Secretary-General Congratulates President Julius Maada Bio on Re-Election in Sierra Leone

In a live broadcast address at the ECOWAS Summit, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency Rtd Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio on his successful re-election as the President of Sierra Leone. Speaking on behalf of the entire United Nations, Guterres praised President Bio’s accomplishment and extended his well wishes to the nation.

In addition, the United Nations extended similar congratulations to Nigerian President His Excellency Ahmed Bola Tinubu for his election earlier this year. The UN Secretary-General expressed the organization’s commitment to supporting future successful presidential elections, highlighting their promise to provide assistance for the upcoming elections in Liberia later this year.

The Sixty-Third Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) took place on July 9, 2023, in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau.

During this momentous event, Heads of State and Government  deliberated on various matters concerning the region, including the reports presented from the Ninetieth Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers. The council meeting took place in Bissau from July 6 to 7, 2023. These reports, along with other crucial issues impacting the West African community, was the focus of discussion throughout the session.

This gathering of ECOWAS leaders is expected to yield significant outcomes in the ongoing efforts to enhance regional cooperation and address challenges that affect the member states.
