Over 400 leading youth figures from various ethnic groups in Nigeria have urged their peers to distance themselves from the planned nationwide hunger protest. These leaders have expressed concerns about the unclear motives of the protest organizers and potential interference from disruptive elements.
In a statement, Barrister Aare Oladotun Hassan, President of the Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide and Secretary General of NENYLCW, acknowledged the challenges facing the country but emphasized that constructive dialogue is a more effective approach to addressing these issues. He announced the launch of a National Dialogue Sensitisation Campaign, encouraging Nigerian youths to participate in meaningful discussion and criticism.
The youth leaders criticized the protest, stating that while they recognize the current hardships in Nigeria, they believe that the protest’s organizers’ true intentions are questionable. They also warned that the protest might be hijacked by troublemakers aiming to create chaos.
In contrast, the leaders are promoting a national dialogue as a way to present solutions to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They cautioned against the protest, asserting that it could be used by certain individuals and politicians to exploit the suffering of Nigerians for their personal gain.
The Nigeria Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders reaffirmed their support for President Tinubu’s administration and urged the public to focus on collaborative efforts rather than protest. They believe in working within the existing governmental framework to address the nation’s issues.
